PRESIDENT PALACE

Kok Tobe is the highest point in Almaty standing on an 1100 m high hill at the south-east edge of the city. To reach the Kok Tobe hill, one needs to take a cable car ride which starts near Hotel Kazakhstan and goes over some of the beautiful oldest parts of Almaty and the splendid fruit growing gardens. GREEN BAZAAR

This widely spread big two-level market has a true zest of Central Asia, and is worth putting on your Almaty tour package itinerary even if you're not shopaholic. Somewhat regular efforts are made to keep it clean and hygienic, but its stalls are still piled with nuts, fresh and dried fruit, smoked fish, spices, Georgian sweets, ready-made Korean salads, cheeses, sausages, vegetables, medicinal herbs, and enormous hunks of fresh meat. GORKY PARK

Gorky Park is one of the most visited parks in Almaty and a good amusing space for both walking and, entertaining the children. The Park is famous by the name of Central Park and covers an area of 100 Hectares. The location of the park, as the name suggests, is in central Almaty and the best part is it is close to the Green Bazaar and Panfilov Park. Gorky Park was named after the Russian author Maxim Gorky and sometimes it is referred by the locals as the Park Gorkogo. SHYMBULAK SKI RESORT

The Shymbulak Ski Resort is situated 25km outside Almaty city and there are 3 ski lifts at the resort with the highest going to 3200 m above sea level. There is also a Hotel located at the Resort, facilitating those wishing to ski during the day, with accommodation facility at night. The resort is situated in the upper part of the Medeu valley in the Zaiilisky Alatau mountain range and is famous for its mild climate, big sunny days and great amount of snow through the winter (from November till May).

MEDEO RINK

The Medeo ice rink is the stunning highest mountain sports complex at a height of 1691 m above sea level and with an ice surface of 10.5 thousand sq. m which can be used for ice skating, figure skating and ice hockey. Medeo Ice Rink was built in 1972 in respect of a nomad called Medeo who lived in this lovely area and established his own ‘aul’in the last century. The Skating rink became prevalent because of its pure glacial water, gentle breeze, mild valley climate and which claims of some 120 world records by famous sportsmen.

ZENKOV CATHEDRAL

A unique architectural building of Zenkov Cathedral (Ascension Cathedral) is positioned in a green Panfilov Park of Almaty. The historical shrine is one of the main attractions of the city. Bishops of Turkestan and Tashkent were the originators of the church construction in the early 19th century. Distinct feature of this wooden building is that it was established according to a unique ancient technology, practically without using any nails. This five-domed and three-aisled cathedral with a built-in bell tower has been included in the top 8 highest buildings of the world constructed completely from wood.

PANFILOV PARK

This large and striking rectangle piece of greenery is one of central Almaty's most popular strolling and hangout places for all ages. At its heart stands the candy-coloured Zenkov Cathedral. The park is named for the Panfilov Heroes, 28 soldiers of an Almaty infantry unit who died fighting off Nazi tanks in a village outside Moscow in 1941. They are commemorated at the terrifying war memorial east of the cathedral.

PALACE OF THE REPUBLIC

The Palace of the Republic is situated in the Almaty City Centre at the juncture of Dostyk and Abay Streets and is one of the largest and chief concert halls in not only Almaty but in Kazakhstan too. Built in 1970 and also known by the name Palace Lenin was opened during the 100th birth anniversary gala of Lenin and ever since has become one of the main tourist attractions of Almaty. MONUMENT OF INDEPENDENCE

The Monument of Independence is situated on Republic Square, one of Almaty’s famous squares. Here you can see a replica Golden Man standing on a winged snow leopard. Around its base are statues of a Kazakh family behind is a semi-circular wall of low-relief bronze sculptures portraying scenes from history of Kazakhstan, from Golden Man times at the left end to Nazarbayev at the right.

REPUBLIC SQUARE

Republic Square is the main square in Almaty, Kazakhstan used for public events. The former presidential palace is on its south side which is now used as municipal offices. Every big city has its centre, and the Republic square is the centre of Almaty and is the biggest square in the city. Its size is almost like combining two stadiums with 580m in length and 210m in width. National festivities, official events, sports activities, and parades are held there. The name of the square has been changed, buildings have been erected, parks, fountains and pools appeared, but the square always remained there.

CHARYN CANYON

One of the biggest surprises in Kazakhstan you may see is Charyn Canyon. You will see endless scenery of wide-open plains and Deserts of Central Kazakhstan, and western. This is Kazakhstan's one of the most varied regions, which have semi-deserts to dense forests and lush greenery. Grand Canyon formations to Waterfalls and lakes filled with glacier melted water that comes from the snow of the Tien- Shan mountain range. The Charyn Canyon is very famous amongst the tourist, especially the valley of castles is the most famous part. Its best for hike and drive, people who have two days left on their trip can come here and check this valley from all four-sides. 

ASTANA SQUARE

Astana Square is one of the famous squares in Almaty, Kazakhstan. Well, it comes on number two spot in comparison with the first largest square of Almaty Republic square. Here only public events, city concerts, and ceremonies can be organized. This Square is in front of the Kazakh-British Technical University, and the monument of Aliya Moldagulova and Manshuk Mantova. The main thing about this square is that is named after Vladimir Lenin and a statue of him stood in the Centre of the square until 1991. You can walk here and admire the beauty of nature. Just sit for a while if you want to. 

BIG ALMATY LAKE

It’s around 30 km drive from south of Almaty and you have to reach Zailiysky Alteau Mountain Range. Here you have two options first you can enjoy soulful lunch at the lakeside with your family or friend or if you have any interest I hiking or trekking then this place is perfect. This is the most beautiful lake in Almaty and its color change according to seasons from light blue to olive green. The trek is around 10 to 15 km and the whole forest is so awesome and pollution-free. Just for trekking, people plan their trip from India to Almaty.
